Rankings and Submissions Writing Specialist

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or better.
5+ years of marketing or related experience, preferably within a professional services environment and ideally within a large law firm. Must have rankings and submissions experience and writing samples to show for it.

The Rankings and Submissions Specialist is responsible for writing submissions for and liaising with the various directories, rankings and awards to which the firm and its lawyers participate with the intention of enhancing the firm s profile. This position reports to the Director of Business Development and Marketing Operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update matter highlights and overviews.
  • Collaborate with lawyers, practice group leads, department chairs and Client Relations colleagues to identify specific matters, practices and lawyer accomplishments.
  • Develop written submissions for various directories including Chambers and Legal 500, among other prominent organizations.
  • Gather and actively manage the client references pertaining to the various submissions.
  • Assist Client Relations teammates with updating and managing a comprehensive calendar of ranking publications, directories, surveys and awards due dates and requirements.
  • Regularly and proactively survey of the rankings landscape for new opportunities.
  • Vet opportunities to determine whether awards or rankings are worthwhile to further an attorney or practice s business development objectives.
  • Track the firm s directory rankings and other accolades.
  • Manage the various pending submission deadlines and coordinate with lawyers and Client Relations teammates to meet them in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain awards updates in the firm s rankings content management database system.
  • Other miscellaneous projects as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Bachelor s degree required; candidate should have 5+ years of marketing or related experience, preferably within a professional services environment and ideally within a large law firm.
  • Experience with Chambers, Legal 500 and other similar surveys/submissions
  • Solid understanding of the law firm environment and of lawyers responsibilities and work ethic is important.
  • Candidate should possess strong skills in MS Office; experience with InterAction, Adobe Acrobat, Foundation and Vuture a plus; knowledge of web-based legal and business resources, such as Lexis-Nexis, Hoover s, LivEdgar, WestLaw and others, also a plus.
  • Candidate must have strong skills in written/verbal communication and be able to work well with lawyers, other professionals and staff within the firm.
  • Candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a high-level of organizational and prioritization skills; attention to detail is critical.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and have flexibility to work additional hours when necessary in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ideal candidate will possess diplomacy, enthusiasm, perseverance and a sense of humor.

Extent of Public Contact (Within and outside the Firm)
This position requires contact with individuals within the firm as follows:
  • a high degree of contact within the Client Relations department.
  • a moderate to high degree of interaction with firm lawyers.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to work at a computer and telephone for extensive periods of time.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry files and other items up to 10 pounds; and
  • Must be able to function in a standard office environment.
  • Limited travel; position may require travel to firms offices a few times a year.
